CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW COMMITTEES AND LOOKING FORWARD TO A SUCCESSFULL 2015/2016 YEAR FOR OUR CLUB

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
As you’re newly elected President, I wish to thank all of the members who attended the AGM 27th September for your vote of confidence and support given to myself and the new committee members. This confidence and support combined with the increase of committee members offers a good, positive future for our club. Please continue this assistance and support, our club’s existence is dependent on the combined and active participation by members and committees. Let us know your ideas and forward them in writing or by email to the club.
Whilst it is early days for the new committees, I have already received some suggestions and requests from members, including the early commencement of family/junior fishing competitions. Your new committee are scheduled to meet on Tuesday 13th of October to format club activities for the rest of the year. These requests and suggestions will be discussed and any decisions will be posted on our web and face book sites. Additional notices will be posted on the club notice board and prominent positions within the club, to inform all the members of any forthcoming activities and events.
It would be remiss of me, if I did not thank everyone from the previous committees, the club members and volunteers for their dedicated efforts, generosity and assistance throughout the year. Their hard work has benefited all members , with the formation of new friendships, the increase of memberships, the improvements of club facilities and prominence as a popular community club, operated and run by member volunteers for the benefit and enjoyment of members and their families.
Thanking you again for your support and looking forward to receiving reports of good fishing and family/junior competitions

FAMILY  FUN  JUNIORS  FISHING DAY.
Sunday 19th October.
What a wonderful day for MCBAFA’s first family/ junior’s day with weather conditions the best for some time and excellent fishing conditions for the 40 entries, including 15 juniors nominated.
Participants fished from all types of locations in Botany Bay, including boats, wharves and beaches. Despite all the efforts and enthusiasm shown, fish catches were scarce, with Weighmaster Sam Affara having  a very slow day.  Although, it was rumoured that the senior entrants were clearly out fished by the juniors, with the regular excuses offered,  that they were too busy sorting out line tangles, removing weed and plastic material and baiting lines etc.  Special mention must be given to the catch and release methods shown by several of the juniors and their parents.  Well done to those entrants.
RESULTS of the day.
Senior Champion .   A new member, John Pizanias with 3 fish totalling 1.370 kgs., including best of species. Congratulations John on your successful first fishing day with the Club. .
Junior Champion.    Jonathan Korkidas with 6 fish totalling 1.370kgs., including best of species.  Well done Jonathan, you obviously have great fishing ability, perhaps you should show some of our seniors how it is done.
Runner Up .    Bailey Ackland, 1 fish best of species, flathead 0,420 kgs., - good one Bailey!

All juniors were awarded trophies, with Richard Sparta from the Angling Committee and Secretary Bob Young presenting the awards to the not so lucky juniors who did not weigh in a fish.
The  Junior Award winners were.
Leon and Lola Lasala .
Melanie Boukatas
Peter Petrakis
Levi Murray-Bell
Lexus and Jaden Dray
Alex,  Kristian and Anastiana Josifovski
Unfortunately some of the juniors were unable to attend due to sickness and other commitments. Arrangements have been made for their awards to be collected at a later date.

Following the presentations, President John Ackland thanked everyone for their attendance with special thanks to our Committee Members Chris Standaloft and Warwick Smith for the BBQ sausage sizzle enjoyed by all.
The Lucky Door Prize, a Shimano rod and reel donated by our sponsor Gary from Rockdale Bait & Tackle was won by another junior club member Brenna Busuttil, congratulations Brenna.
Thank you Rockdale Bait & Tackle for your continued support to the Club, it is much appreciated.
Overall a good day was enjoyed by all, with the families and juniors looking forward to our next family junior fishing day.  At this early stage, the committee are considering a suitable day in the first week of the December school holidays, final date to be confirmed.
The Committee thank everyone for their support and attendance on the day.  Remember, this is your Club and by your continuing support, everyone will benefit and the Club will continue to prosper.  We are also seeking members who can volunteer their assistance in the running of these club days.  If you are able to assist, please contact a committee member.
The Committee.

OUR BEGINNING

The blue skies and tranquil waters of Botany Bay presented an attractive picture on a Sunday morning in the year 1952, but a group of local fishermen in earnest conversation at Brighton Beach were obvious to the view.

The boatshed, which was originally a part of the long deserted baths and was at this point quite presentable in appearance, due to the efforts of our fishing friends who had re-roofed, rebuilt and painted the old derelict structure. for their pains the holder of the occupancy proposed to increase the rent. they quite clearly told him where to put his shed.

Over a few beers Lance Stoddard suggested building their own shed, but where? after much arm bending it was muddy creek apart from being a repository of rubbish, etc was situated in the middle of a large area of foul smelling oozy mud. but there was no choice. An appeal to the Rockdale council for 300 ft of water frontage was successful, in fact they were delighted that anyone could be interested in doing something with the only blot in an attractive municipality.

Each member put in 100 pounds, giving them 2,200 pounds for material and members were rostered to work on a voluntary basis each weekend and in about 16 months the wood and iron boatshed, including ramps was completed.

After a period of occupation it seemed all they lacked was an area for relaxation, so lance Stoddard and Roy Hocking drew up a rough plan for a clubhouse. Builder and member builders quoted 6,000 pounds for the building, using a percentage of voluntary labour, as no money was in the kitty, off they went to bank of new south wales who, (providing the loan was guaranteed by members) would back the project.

This was forthcoming and the clubhouse was built astonishingly without using the members money and the opening date was 4th December, 1959. the club constitution was drawn up, a 30 year lease signed with covenants, with the council. The club to carry out beautification of the area.

Membership was now increasing rapidly and within a few short years the club was forced to dredge the creek at a cost of $85,000 they now had a member waiting list in excess of 250 and it was obvious a new clubhouse was required, finance was available and on 23rd august, 1968, the present building was opened. Built at a cost of $500,000 and at that particular time was probably regarded as the headquarters of amateur fishing in this state. Most amateur fishermen have visited the club and would probably agree that the Brighton amateur fishermen’s association would be known the length and breadth of Australia. all this from a group of fishermen who objected to having the rent increased on their boats, and this building now stands as a monument to their idealism and ingenuity.
